Matt Trautman is a professional triathlete and coach based in Cape Town South Africa. A former pro yachtsman, he took up the sport of triathlon late in life but quickly went on to excel.
After two years of racing as an age grouper, Matt turned professional in 2014. He has since won 19 Half Ironman Distanceraces including 5 victories at Ironman 70.3 South Africa. He is atwo-time Ironman Wales champion and winner of the European Long-Distance Champs in course record time.
In January 2017 Matt was hit by a car at high speed whilst out riding and had to undergo a multiple level spinal fusion to repair three crushed lumbar vertebrae. After a year of rehab and recovery Matt went on to regain his 70.3 South Africa title and has since continued to excel at the highest levels of long-distance triathlon
Matt has been actively coaching athletes since 2014 and has personally been coached and mentored by some of the world’s most successful coaches whilst training alongside some of the world’sbest triathletes. This experience has shaped Matts training philosophy and given a deep understanding of the intricacies of getting the best performance out of each individual athlete.
